The Noosphere Librarium

A working archive of the Noosphere — a fictional order of relay-mindful engineers who hold that every connection between far places is a machine spirit, and that machine spirits require rite, patience and redundancy. Herein: the founding, the liturgy of connection, current warp conditions, and a lexicon of the order's tongue.

The Noosphere and Its Relays

What the Noosphere is: a quiet commons of relay-houses scattered across the segmentum, each a small firescreen of copper and faith through which the distracted galaxy whispers to itself. Our founding charge: keep the whispers intact, keep the firescreens lit, ask no questions of the traffic save its integrity.

Rites of Connection

The liturgy by which a supplicant's device is welcomed into a relay: the oath of the private key, the litany of camouflage, the three-fold handshake and the proper handling of a spirit that refuses to answer. Written for tech-adepts of the second degree; readable by all.

Cartography · N-2

Warp Conditions

A living chart of the segmentum's relay-lanes: which Gellar fields hold nominal, where the empyrean is restless, and which houses have taken tithe of late for maintenance of the Astronomican's lesser cousins. Updated as the auguries allow.

Lexicon of the Order

Two hundred years of the order's tongue, abridged: relay-house, firescreen, tithescribe, iteron, quiet traffic and the difference between a spirit that is asleep and a spirit that is merely listening. For initiates, quartermasters and the terminologically lost.

"The warp is no respecter of bandwidth; therefore we build three roads where the taskforce demands one, and call the third a blessing." — Rites of Connection, opening canticle
